Z loves firetrucks and firefighters. It’s been an interest of his since before last Christmas. As we started to brainstorm his birthday theme and I pitched other ideas he always came back to firetrucks and firefighters. He loves the color red, the bright lights and sounds of the firetruck, and playing with the hose in the front yard. So yep firetrucks it is.
This year of course was different. We usually have Z’s bday party the weekend after Memorial Day, celebrating the start of summer with our friends and family. The front yard is usually full of little kids running around as adults talk or play games. This year because of family events we had to move it up a weekend and of course we had to significantly downsize the party to mostly close family in the backyard. But Z didn’t seem to mind.
He enjoyed playing with firetrucks on the concrete, playing in his sandbox, and exploring a sensory table filled with water beads, firetruck toys, and red measuring cups. He also had fun with a new pop up tent firetruck and spinning sprinkler fire hydrant.
Z loved his new little picnic table from which he ate plenty of popcorn and “spicy chips”. We had hot dogs for lunch and Z’s favorite drink: lemonade.
When the weather looked like it may turn on us, we came inside for cake and presents. Z of course had a firetruck cake with his favorite flavor: strawberry filling. After we sang to him he blew out his #3 candle all by himself.
Z got some awesome new toys, and yes some new firetruck gear.
Despite some unexpected set backs and of course a smaller group we had a great time celebrating Z turning 3!
